Denver is known as the Mile High City since it is a mile above sea level. It is the capital of Colorado, and the largest city in the state. With mountains as the backdrop to the west, Denver is great place to call home. The population of Denver is over half a million, but most people think of the Denver Metro area, which has a population of 1.5 million and includes these counties: Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson. Nearby counties include Boulder, Clear Creek and Gilpin. Denver is a large city made up of many small neighborhoods.
The real estate market in the Denver area has appreciated significantly over the past several years, but slowed down last year. In 2006, the average priced home in Denver increased to $249,500, about one percent higher than in 2005.
